The C16 maintained by Kent Council is a Class III road that runs in a north-south direction.
Starting at a TOTSO with the C2 in the village of Lower Higham, the C16 heads south, as School Lane. Between the villages of Higham and Lower Higham, the road passes a school and a country home. In the centre of Higham, the C2 becomes Forge Lane at a crossroads with the C7. Continuing south, the road soon meets the A226 before doing a dog-leg onto Crutches Lane. Now fully rural, the road passes another school before heading under the A289. Soon, the road enters the outskirts of Strood, taking a short easterly turn onto the Old Watling Street before ending on a roundabout with the A2.
