The C172 is the pre-bypass route of the B1001 (now A602) through the village of Tonwell, Hertfordshire.
A short route with pedestrian footway for its entire length, it passes a few dozen houses, becoming one-way at the southern end, where a turning circle exists for public service vehicles to return back through the village.
