The C17K comprises the more important streets in the coastal village of Johnshaven. There are two starting points on the A92, one at Mains of Brotherton, from where the C17K follows the road downhill past Lathallan School into Castle Street, the other a little to the west, following New Road. The two then meet at the Square in the centre of the village. From here, the route continues south west along Main Street, before doubling back along South Street to the harbour. Continuing along the coast, there is a link back to the Square, whilst the mainline runs along Fore Street to the junction with Beach Road.
