For other roads numbered C18, see C18.
The C18 starts on the A7 a little to the south of Ashkirk and heads east, crossing a low hill before dropping down to the Ale Water. As the river meanders, the road slowly climbs away from the riverbank, finally reaching the B6400 near Newhouse. As the road climbs away from the river at Dimpleknowe, a lengthy spur turns west back to the A7 near Synton.
