West Sussex County Council's locally classified C1 starts at a T junction with the A2037 at the foot of the South Downs. It heads east following the foot of the downs and is just wide enough for two vehicles to pass each other. Adjacent to the road on both sides are farmers' fields with the occasional farm or house. To the right there are a couple of footpaths that head up the Downs to join the South Downs Way.
When we reach Falking, a small village the road twists and turns around around some properties, there is also the Shepherd & Dog Pub beside the road. Once we leave the village by taking a right turn (which follows the route of the road) we shortly enter the next village, Poynings.
Again at Poynings the road reduces to one vehicle width at points as it twists around the buildings. Once the road leaves the village it terminates at a roundabout. To the left is the A281 from the north, ahead is the A281 which leads to the A23 at Dale Hill and right takes you towards Brighton via Saddlescombe.
Despite its narrow width, the road is not subjected to any width, weight or height restrictions, however the speed limit does vary between 20, 30 and NSL. But within the villages it is harder to go faster than 10 MPH at points.
