The C204 starts on the B7078 a little north of the Duneaton Bridge and heads south along what was once the A74 as far as the bridge. It then turns left, keeping to the east bank of the river and following it as it curves round to the west. The road crosses the river at Crawfordjohn Mill and continues along the north bank into Crawfordjohn itself, where it ends on the B740 at the crossroads.
