The C22 starts on the A70 near Cronberry and heads westwards, quickly crossing the Bellow Water. Skirting the southern edge of Airds Moss, once a busy mining area, the route crosses the Auchinleck Burn and drops down the hill, entering the town as Coal Road. It comes to an end at a crossroads on the B7083, opposite the B7036.
