The C236 starts on the C234 near Glais Bridge and heads south east, crossing over Taf Fechan as it does so. Before long the road reaches the northern outskirts of Merthyr Tydfil. The road crosses the the C237 at a crossroads on the north side of the A465 before continuing eastwards through Pant Industrial Estate. At the eastern end of the estate the road comes to an end on the C235.
