The C253 is the original line of the A85 into Dundee from Invergowrie. It is believed to be the late 1960s before the route was moved south onto Riverside Drive, leaving the old road to become the C253. It starts at the Invergowrie end with a rather unassuming junction on the A85 just before the dualled section comes to an end. It then curves round to head east, running more or less parallel to the main road, and the railway in between. At the fork junction at the West End, the route appears to split. A spur forks left along Hawkhill, presumably meeting the A991 at West Port Roundabout, while the mainline continues along Perth Road into the city centre. After crossing the A991 itself, it runs along the High Street, past the old church, but it is not clear where it ends, indeed whether it includes the pedestrianised section or not.
