The C262 starts at a crossroads on the A20 in Dundonald and follows Dunlady Road northwards out of town. The road climbs steeply up to a TOTSO on the B170 formed by a crossroads consisting of the B170 (TOTSO), C262 and C263. The road resumes from another junction on the B170 just to the north west from which it continues north to the A2 outside the village of Helen's Bay. From the A2 the road makes its way into Helen's Bay. After passing under the railway line, the road TOTSOs right and crosses the railway line once more on its way out of village. The road crosses Lorne Burn and ends on the B20 in Crawfordsburn.
