The road starts at a junction on the B6 at Priests Bridge and heads north east towards Carrickmannon Lough before turning east. Shortly afterwards the road crosses the C272 at a crossroads and meets the north end of the C274 at the next crossroads just before crossing the Capel Water. Continuing east, the road crosses the A22 as it passes through Balloo and then Killinchy. The road ends at a junction east of Killinchy just short of Whiterock on the shores of the lough, with the road ahead into Whiterock being a U road.
