The C293 is a very lengthy class III route in central County Down, in part as a result of including a spur but nevertheless it is still almost 20km from Dundrum to Dromara. The road starts on the A2 in the coastal village of Dundrum and makes its way inland, keeping east of Moneycarragh River as it crosses the A25. Soon after crossing the A25 the road takes on a somewhat NW - SE alignment on its way to a crossroads with the B175. After the crossroads the road once again follows Moneycarragh River closely, but only briefly before turning away to the north. Further along a spur turns north east off the road, crosses the C290 and meets the B175 and the C292 at Magherahamlet. The main route gradually turns round to the west and soon meets the west end of the C290 as well as the south end of the C294. After rounding north of Begny Lake, the road finally reaches Dromara where it ends upon meeting the B7 at a T junction.
