The C294 in Northumberland is a lengthy route passing through the Pennines. The road starts on a fiveway TOTSO of the B6295 at Thornley Gate in East Allendale and climbs south westwards up over Dryburn Moor. Gradually, the road turns southwards around the western flank of Brownley Hill before making a descent towards the small village of Carrshield in the upper reaches of West Allendale. From here the road climbs as it continues southwards. At Coalcleugh, there is a sharp bend on the road as it turns south westwards and continues to climb. The road summits at 609 metres above sea level upon reaching the county boundary at Black Hill. Having reached the Northumberland Council boundary the C294 ceases and the road ahead is numbered within Westmorland as the C3041 as it descends towards the A689 near Nenthead.
