The C296 is a fairly lengthy route commencing from the A21 on the edge of Ballygowan, meandering south west towards the A7. After crossing the A7 the road crosses Old Belfast Road (U class) via two separate junctions. Passing south east of Temple Roundabout, the road then crosses the B6 followed by the A24. At Boardmills, the road TOTSOs south west and meets the A49 north of the Ravernet River.
