The C3-A2 serves the small village of Kildonan at the southern end of Arran. Until quite recently, it met the A841 at each end, but that route was truncated from a full island loop and so it is now the C147 that the C3-A2 meets at each end.
The slightly unusual numbering format for the route perhaps reflects that Arran lies in Buteshire, not Ayrshire.
