The C31 starts on the A71 near the centre of West Calder and follows Kirkgate, then Harwood Road out of town. After passing Harwood and Baad's Mains, it reached a T junction, at which point the main line turns left to reach the C28 at Baad's Mill. However, the road ahead, via West Mains, appears to be a spur of the C31, turning north to meet the A704.
