West Sussex County Council's locally classified C3 is the closest to avoiding Chichester when traveling from the north to the east of the city and in some of the Chichester Bypass Routes suggested that the Bypass would follow some sections on the C3.
Route
A259 to B2178
The route starts at a T junction off the A259 and heads up Salthill Road, a residential street in Fishbourne. It crosses the West Coastway railway line at a level crossing next to Fishbourne station.
Once leaving the town it crosses over the A27 which was built in the 1990s and previously took the route of the A259. After crossing the dual carriageway it becomes a fairly straight road and is a nice drive. This section terminates on the B2178 on a T Junction. To continue along the C3 it is a quick right and then left turn onto Hunters Race.
B2178 to A286
This section is called Hunters Race and is straight apart from two bends. It is intercepted by two roads, West Stoke Road and Two Barns Lane. This section of road does have width restrictions of 6"6' but is NSL its entire length. Once we get to the A286 we have to take a right and then a left at the roundabout to continue along the C3.
A286 to Kennel Hill
This section of road is called Pook Lane and takes us through East Lavant. At the western end it starts at a roundabout with the A286 where it heads towards East Lavant, here is has a 30MPH speed limit and the roads are just wide enough for two vehicles. Once leaving the village it becomes NSL and wiggles around the edge of some woods before terminating on Kennel Hill at a crossroads. These crossroads have STOP markings for those coming from Pook Lane or the private estate entrance on the other side. This section is also subjected to width restrictions of 6"6'.
