The C401 is known as the High Carse Road, as it curves around the bottom of the hill on the landward side of the Carse of Gowrie. It starts at the Glendoick Junction, briefly doubling back alongside the A90, before finding its original line north then north east to Kilspindie.Continuing along the foothills, the C401 passes Rait and Kinnaird, before turning south east to meet the extended B853 at the Inchture Junction on the A90.
