The C43 is not, in any sense of the phrase, a through route for vehicles. It follows Ashgrove Road in Kilwinning, both ends of which have been stopped up, only allowing pedestrians and cyclists to travel the full length of the road. In addition, what was the western end seems to have been re-named as part of Meadow Park Road, and renumbered as the C87
