The C44 starts on the C2, Neilston Road between Neilston and Barrhead and heads north west along Donnies Brae to the A736. After a dogleg to the right, it continues along Gateside Road, turning right at the T junction where it meets the C40, Fereneze Road. Here, however, it becomes somewhat confusing, as the next section of Gateside Road seems to be part of both the C40 and C44 as it runs into Barrhead. The C44 comes to an end as the road changes to Graham Street, which is only part of the C40.
