The C490 starts on the A39 at the western end of Corston and follows Ashton Hill westwards as it slowly diverges from the main road. Beyond a crossroads, the route becomes Gypsy Lane, as it passes the business park at Burnett, and then meets the B3116 at a reprofiled junction.
