The C494 starts on the B3114 at Coley to the east of East Harptree and heads northwards to cross the River Chew, before turning north east to reach Hinton Blewitt. After passing the church, the route turns sharp left, then right onto Cameley Lane which winds through Cameley and on to the A37 at Temple Cloud. Here, the C494 doglegs to the south, before continuing east along Eastcourt Road to meet the C496, Marsh Lane near Hallatrow.
