The C496 starts on the A37 a little to the south of the Chelwood Roundabout, and follows Lower Bristol Road south into Clutton. Here it doglegs west along Station Road, before continuing southwards along Church Lane and Marsh Lane, meandering past Temple Cloud and on to meet the A39 at Hallatrow.
