For other roads numbered C4, see C4.
The C4 starts simply enough as a link connecting the A930 and A92 along Grange Road and West Grange Road in Monifieth. However, even here it can get complicated as the original route wiggled around to the east along Grange Road South, and the rest of Grange Road, a route now partially closed up. The A92 is met at a roundabout on the council boundary, and the next section of the road is actually in Dundee Council area as it runs alongside the A92 on the north side. Then, at another roundabout, again on the council boundary, the C4 resumes and heads north, curving northwest, to reach the B961 at Kingennie.
After a short multiplex to the west, the C4 resumes, passing through South Kingennie and Murroes to reach the B978 near Kellas. A dogleg to the right, and the route continues past Westhall, to reach the C6 at Duntrune.
