The C4 maintained by Kent Council is a Class III road heading in a north-south direction from Gravesend, through its suburbs into the village of Cobham.
Starting on the A226 Gravsend ring road, the C4 heads south as a busy suburban artery before reaching a roundabout with the B261 and C365. The road continues south before reaching a triple-dumbbell junction with the A2 and C367 near Nell's Cafe. This junction was originally a more simple affair but was rebuilt when the A2 was moved to a more southerly alignment. Now becoming the rural Henshurst Road, the C4 passes the Singlewell Maintenance Facility for HS1 and the Jeskyns Community Woodland. The road then sharply turns east as Jeskyns Road before ending on a junction with the C492 at the edge of Cobham.
