The C518 is a medium length class III route in County Londonderry starting on the A2 at Faughanvale. Heading south and inland, the road climbs up onto the gentle slopes above Lough Foyle. At its highest point the road is nearly 200 metres above the sea lough. Eventually the road comes to a T junction on the western edge of Loughermore Forest and TOTSOs south west. Not far beyond here the road reaches a crossroads and TOTSOs south east, leading to the C507 at Craigatoke.
