The C552 is the number given to a portion of the former B1289 in northern Sunderland. Although once the main road between Southwick and the centre of Sunderland, it is now bypassed by a parallel road to the south which carries the A1290. Moreover, part of the road is now limited access and can only be used by buses.
It begins on the B1291 at the point where that road bends south to meet the A1290. The C552 continues the line of Southwick Road, however only buses are permitted to use this section. The bus-only section ends at the Halfway House pub and the road continues past a combination of traditional terraced housing and more modern developments. After a short while it curves to the right to end on the A1290 Keir Hardie Way, directly opposite Sunderland AFC's Stadium of Light.
