The C56 is a class III road in Hertfordshire.
It starts with a (pointless) multiplex with the C174 from Tollgate Road to Swanland Road (crossing the A1(M) in the process. At Swanland Road, the C174 heads south, while we continue east into Welham Green. After passing over the East Coast Main Line, we reach a roundabout with the A1000, at The Rookery Crossroads. From here, we multiplex south-east with the A1000, and after a short while re-emerge to travel east again along Westfield and Grubbs Lane.
We then meet the B158 and multiplex north east along Kentish Lane for a short distance, before heading east again along Woodfield Lane and Tylers Causeway. After this, we have a final multiplex, north on the C54, before again heading east along White Stubbs Lane towards Broxbourne. However, on almost reaching the town, we TOTSO and head south-east, crossing the A10 to end up on the A1170 in Wormley.
