This article is about the Class III road numbered C710 maintained by DfI Roads. For other roads numbered C710, see C710.
The C710 is an important link between the A46 and the A47 as they run along opposite sides of Lower Lough Erne. This route came into existence when Rosscor Bridge over the River Erne opened in 1927. Earlier maps show this route as Primary and as a spur of the A46, which may explain its current number late in the sequence of NI C roads.
Rosscor Bridge
Rosscor Bridge was previously severed in October 1971 by an IRA bomb and two spans were replaced by a temporary steel "Bailey bridge" structure. The deck on this has been replaced on several occasions, most recently in late 2020[1]. As such it has a considerable weight limit and is unable to support large vehicles which instead need to cross the river at the village of Belleek to the west with a brief trip across the border along the R920 required. Despite the ample funds that were made available in the 1920s to build this route and the prolonged life of the temporary solution, whether or not the bridge will receive a full repair remains to be seen. It remains as the only bridge damaged during the Troubles in Northern Ireland not to have been fully reinstated.
