The C81L is the former route of the B9038 through Inverboyndie. It starts on the A98 a little to the west of Banff and heads north at first into the village. A sweeping left hand bend sits where the railway used to cross the road, with a right turn leading down to the beach car park. The road then heads west, along the narrow village road, with a very tight, bling bend as it climbs up below the churchyard. A little further on the route comes to an end at the Inverboyndie Crossroads, with the B9139 continuing ahead, and the re-routed B9038 crossing.
