For other roads numbered C81, see C81.
The C81 starts at the crossroads on the C77, Market Street in Forfar and heads north along Carseview Road into the industrial estate. At the same junction, the C78 continues south along North Street, and there is no obvious reason why Carseview Road was given a different number.
Formerly a cobbled road leading past the entrance to the station, Carseview Road has now been improved due to the removal of the cobbles and demolition of the railway bridge that arched over the road and was notorious for causing flooding after a spell of heavy rain due to the road having to dip slightly underneath the arch.
The road from here climbs up past the mart on the left and reaches Forfar Athletic F.C.'s ground at Station Park, now 15 miles away from the nearest station. The road bends away to the right and heads straight through the industrial area to end at Suttieside Road at Suttieside Farm on the extreme north-east periphery of the town.
