The C81 starts on the B6364 at the sharp bend at Legars and heads south east, soon turning north east. It runs along the side of the low ridge, keeping to a north easterly direction despite some little kinks, to reach the A697. After dog-legging to the right, it resumes its course to reach the C95 near Mersington.
