Garey Ford on the C8

The C8 is a relatively short, but interesting route which a little to the west of Ramsey. It starts on the A13, Jurby Road, and heads south between fields before turning to run west past the scattered houses that make up the small village of Garey. Many of these properties are large, detached houses, set back down driveways in large gardens, but there are a few more modest homes too. After crossing the old railway line, a couple of bends bring the road onto the wooded north bank of the Sulby River. Road and river run parallel for a time, before the road turns hard left to cross the river. There is no road bridge, however, instead an Irish Bridge allows the river to flow through pipes beneath the concrete road when the river is low, but flood markers show the water depth when the river is in spate.

A footbridge stands a few yards downstream, offering a good viewpoint as well as allowing pedestrians to keep their feet dry! After crossing the river, the road winds southwards across fields to end at a fairly blind T junction on the A3 a little to the west of Churchtown.
