The C90 starts on the B741 in New Cumnock and heads south along Afton Road. Quickly leaving the small town behind, the route continues south, following Glen Afton deep into the hills, and coming to an end at a for at Craigdarroch. Tracks continue a short way up the glen to the dam and reservoir.
