|Route outline (key)|
The C91a is a lengthy route, mostly following the east bank of the River Annan. However, it starts to the west of the river, on the B7020 at Dormont and heads east, curving around the park to cross the river at Williamwath Bridge. Heading north, the route crosses through Birkshaw Forest before the river returns to view. The A709 is crossed west of Lockerbie and then at Dryfesdale Gate the route turns sharp left to cross the Dryfe Water. After wiggling round some bends, the road heads north west to the banks of the Annan, turning sharply to run alongside the river to the C19a at Millhousebridge.
