The C9 starts on the A811 a little to the north of Balloch, forking sharply off the main road near some light industrial premises. The road quickly gains height, before a tight bend turns it westwards, still climbing. A few more sharp bends follow as the road crosses the summit, and drops a little to pass Caldarvan Loch. Heading north east now, the C10 turns left for Gartocharn, and then a short distance later the C9 TOTSOs left, with the C8 continuing ahead. It is now just over a mile to the end of the route at the council boundary, the road meeting a T junction, with left leading back into West Dunbartonshire and Gartocharn, whilst right runs through to Croftamie.
