Centreholm Roundabout is the middle of the three planned Grade Separated Junctions at Erskine. It is also the most complete, with the A726 to the north following the original splays as a short dual carriageway on the approach to the junction. That is as far as it got, however, with the road to the south following the planned southbound carriageway away from the roundabout. The land for the northbound carriageway was reserved for many years, but is now home to a filling station, accessed from the proposed northbound entrance for the A726.
Of course, these splayed sliproads can only mean one thing - that the A726 was originally intended to be carried over the roundabout on a flyover. At the time of planning, the A726 was the main route to the Erskine Ferry, however with the coming of the motorway and Erskine Bridge in 1971, the route lost its strategic importance, and so the urgency of upgrading was lost. Even today, the junction is rarely busy enough to warrant any work.
The Roundabout connects the A726 to Centre Way, a dualled distributor road which heads east providing access to Erskine's main shopping centre, which lies in the north east corner of the roundabout. To the west, the distributor road continues to access Rashilee, one of the smaller estates in Erskine, home to the High School, Police station, church and other town centre functions.
