Child's Corner was a crossroads on the North Circular Road between Gates Corner and Charlie Brown's Roundabout. The footprint of the M11 Woodford Interchange and associated side routes meant that the junction and surrounding buildings was removed.
The junction was where Maybank Avenue crossed the North Circular; a much truncated Maybank Avenue now meets the sliproads connecting Charlie Brown's with the North Circular to the west.
Frank Collins, 78, has lived in Maybank Road since he was two and remembers the group forming to build a sense of community again. He said: “We lost about seven shops and a post office in Child’s Corner when the road was built – the community in South Woodford was severed in half.
Residents instead suggested the junction be built further north, but the ministry argued just as many buildings would be knocked down.
