Kinnegad is a town in the Irish Midlands. It is a very important junction on the road network, as it's where traffic from Dublin splits for the northwest via the M4 to Sligo and County Donegal, and the west via the M6 towards Galway and the Atlantic Coast in that region.
The junction has moved several times since the origin of road numbering. Originally, the N6 branched off the N4 at the western end of the High Street along Athlone Road, with the N4 continuing along Mullingar Road. An N6 relief road was built in the late 1990s, while the current motorway junction opened in 2005.
