Cliffsend Underpass is a concrete underpass under the railway and level crossing at Cliffsend near Ramsgate. It was built along with the East Kent Access Improvement Scheme: Phase 2 to improve road communication to Ramsgate Port and town. The official opening of the Scheme was on 23 May 2012.

Construction

It is a jacked box underpass and when built was the longest box jacked built structure in the world. Its roof sits 6m below the railway and there are 15m cuttings either side. Box jacking was used since it had minimal impact on the existing rail and road infrastructure.
