Clifton Bridge crosses the River Ouse approximately 1 mile north of the city centre. Made out of concrete, it forms an unofficial bypass of the city centre.
History
A ferry existed here for many years, however in 1961 the army built a temporary Bailey Bridge across the river to cater for the extra traffic cused by the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Kent. It proved so useful that a permanent bridge was built and opened two years later.
The bridge carried the A1176 for a few years but later became unclassified. It may have later re-received this number.
