Coleshill Interchange is a large interchange complex to the north east of Birmingham.

It forms junction 3A and junction 4 of the M6, junction 7, junction 7A and junction 7B of the M42, as well as the southeastern terminus of the M6 Toll. Some movements cannot be performed here, which are done at Water Orton Interchange.

The junction 4 roundabout was originally constructed prior to the M6 in the area, meaning that for a while there was simply a roundabout in the middle of the A446. This was then completed, and fully opened in 1972 along with the mainline of the M6 through the junction, and with standard length sliproads at all arms.

Shortly afterwards, construction started on the M42 through the junction area, and the M6 eastbound exit sliproad was extended in length to move it to out of the way of the new looped sliproad from M42 northbound to M6 eastbound. This was done in order to cut down on the amount of weaving that would take place over a very short length of roadway. The M6 westbound exit sliproad to the roundabout was also lengthened, and modified to include the additional sliproad to the M42 southbound. When the M42 opened on 8 November 1976 it ended on a temporary terminus just to the north of the M6 onto the unclassified Coleshill Heath Road, evidence of which can be seen today in the form of closed sliproads.

In late 1985, the M42 was extended northwards, closing the temporary terminus, but otherwise leaving the junction complex relatively unchanged.

Finally, the junction evolved into its present form when in 2003, the M6 Toll opened, linking to the M6 and forming a multiplex with M42.
