Crawley Interchange
The Crawley Interchange is a signal controlled roundabout forming junction 10 of the M23, connecting it to the A264 and A2011.
It opened on 28 February 1975 per the Gazette, slightly later than the 19 December 1974 opening of M23.
It initially only served the A2011, with the A264 running along what is now the A2220, without its own junction with the M23. The Copthorne Link was built in the late 1980s connecting the A264 to the M23, with the A264 being routed along the now A2011 until the construction of the Crawley South-western Bypass.
During Between 2018 & 2020 the M23 was upgraded to a smart motorway between J8 with the M25 J7 at Merstham and this junction. This upgraded the hard shoulder into a permanent 4th running lane to the North of the junction and included minor alterations to this junction to accommodate the additional lane.
Funded as part of the Forge Wood Neighbourhood Housing Development this junction is due to be signalised. Documents from May 2021 suggest that should take place from July 2022 and take 7 months to complete although its likely this will be pushed back to a later date. July 2022 update - Works are not due to take place this year.
