The roundabout was created when the A2300 was built in 1997. Originally traffic heading east to west would have crossed Cuckfield Road in Goddards Green, just south of the current roundabout. In 2020 there is going to be construction of new houses in the north side of Burgess Hill, including both sides of the A2300, this means that the A2300 is being dualed and junctions improved, this includes upgrading this junction and allowing dual carriageway along the A2300.
In 2022 plans in the Mid Sussex District Plan Review suggested that this junction would be at capacity and need improvements to support additional planned housing (beyond the already planned development above). This suggestion is a hamburger/throughabout junction.
