There are two poorly-signed tourist routes, providing alternatives to the A9/NC500, serving the Dornoch area.

Dornoch Firth Tourist Route

At the Meikle Ferry Roundabout, the A836 is signed for "Dornoch Firth National Scenic Area. Alternative Tourist Route North for 22 miles via Bonar Bridge" with the sign listing "food, toilets, shops, B&B, hotels". This route follows the A836 along the south side of the Firth and the A949 along the north side (both the former route of the A9), returning to the A9 at Clashmore Junction.

Embo and Dornoch Coastal Route

South of The Mound, the C1026 is signed for "Visit Embo and Dornoch. Scenic Coastal Route." with the sign listing "Golf, Beaches, Cathedral, All Tourist Services, Hotels". Presumably this route returns to the A9 via the A949 to Evelix Junction
