Doyle's Corner is a busy signalised crossroads on the north side of Dublin, at the centre of the district of Phibsborough. It takes its name from one of the pubs on the corner, which was originally Dunphy's Corner.
Until 2012 it was the junction of the N2 and the N3, although these roads are now designated R108 and R101. The N3 began its route west from here, while the three remaining arms were all designated N2. This was because of the way the road had to split around the one way system at Parnell Square.
The R101 here is carrying traffic around the north side of the city towards Dublin Port and other routes in and out of the city. Accordingly, it is named North Circular Road, and since 2002 has been part of the Dublin Outer Orbital Route.
Doyle's Corner forms junction 72 (formerly junction 69) of that orbital.
There is a total ban on all right turns at this junction, which allowed the junction to operate with only four traffic light phases, two of which catered for pedestrians. Traffic heading east and wishing to turn right can use Berkerley Road (as the old N2 did); traffic heading west can use Whitworth Road. Other directions are less-well catered for but Monck Place is a common shortcut.
The traffic light phasing was changed in mid-March 2020, following the COVID-19 lockdown. It now uses a more conventional arrangement with a dedicated pedestrian phase, to encourage social distancing.
