Drochaid Mhor

The Drochaid Mhor (or Big Bridge) spans the River Dionaird a couple of miles south of the Kyle of Sutherland, near Durness. It is a single span stone arch bridge carrying the single track A838, and has all of the hallmarks as being designed by Thomas Telford. However, the bridge was constructed by the Duke of Sutherland in 1834, after Telfords work with the commission on Highland Roads and Bridges had been concluded, but to one of his designs which he made available for the Highland Counties to continue using.
