To the north of Dumbarton, the A82 is now carried by a dual-carriagway concrete bridge over the River Leven, which was built as part of the Alexandria Bypass, despite sitting on the northern edge of Dumbarton. The bridge consists of 3 main spans, with two piers sitting in the riverbed, and additional spans over the riverbanks. Immediately to the west of the bridge, the sliproads start for Renton Junction, and to the east it is not far to the traffic calming and speed limit for the new Lomondgate Roundabout.
The bridge was built in the late 1960s, and opened in 1970, although it was several years before the next section of the bypass, around the west side of Alexandria, was completed. In the meantime, the A82 dropped down to follow what is now the B875 route up to Balloch.
