The E2 was a European route running from London to Dover via Folkestone, and onto Brindisi on the heel of Italy via Reims and Parma. It lasted from 1950 to 1983.
Route
The route never changed, running London - Reims - Parma - Brindisi for all 33 years.
UK Route
Beginning in Central London, the E2 headed south east to New Cross on the A2, before taking the A20 to Dover. When the A20(M) and M20 motorway upgrades of the route opened, it took them. This UK route is identical to the E5's.
French Route
Calais - Laon - Reims - Vitry-le-François - Saint-Dizier - Dijon - Dole - Switzerland
Swiss Route
France - Vallorbe - Lausanne - Martigny - Simplon - Italy
Italian Route
Switzerland - Arona - Milan - Palma - Rimini - Brindisi

When the new system was implemented, the E2 was renumbered as follows:

- Langres - Dijon: E17, E21
- Dijon - Vallorbe: none
- Vallorbe - Lausanne: E23
- Lausanne - Milan: E62
- Milan - Modena - Bologna: E35
- Modena - Bologna - Cesena: E45
- Cesena - Brindisi: E55
