Description:Mid 1960s plan to grade separate the A470 between Gabalfa Interchange and Coryton Interchange. This section of Northern Avenue/Manor Way was to be improved as part of Buchanan's plans for the city. The existing northbound A470 carriageway would remain as a local access road whereas all the houses on the southbound side would be obliterated. The flyover at Gabalfa would have curved sharply to the east where a new distributor to the city centre would have been built. By 1968 plans for the A470 south of Coryton were downgraded and the Hook Road and Western Tangential would have formed the main routes through the north of the city. The planned link to the city centre south of Gabalfa was also abandoned soon after. The only part of the scheme to be built was the flyover at Gabalfa which was realigned at its southern end to plug into the existing North Road.
